Student reports first sex-related crime of Fall Semester to OUPD

Correction appended.

Update: This story has been updated to show the most recent reporting.

The Ohio University Police Department received its first report of a sex-related crime for Fall Semester on Thursday.

A 19-year-old female student reported a male she didn't know solicited her for sexual activity while she walked on campus at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

The incident, which the report categorizes as solicitation, allegedly occurred on South Green near River Park Apartments.

The Ohio Revised Code defines solicitation as soliciting another person who is 18 years or older for sexual activity for hire.

OUPD fielded two reports of sex-related crimes during the 2016 summer semester, a total of 10 during the 2016 spring semester and a total of 16 during fall semester 2015.

Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly categorized the type of alleged sex-related crime. The woman reported an incident of alleged solicitation. The article has been updated to show the most accurate information.
