Back to Bobcat Basics: Marvelous makeup must-haves

Makeup certainly isn't necessary, and I wholeheartedly agree that it shouldn't be what makes a woman beautiful. However, I would be lying if I said I still didn't splurge on it.

I love the sound of cracking open the seal of a new eyeshadow palette, unscrewing the top of a liquid lipstick and the noise that the zipper of my makeup bag makes every morning as I sit in front of my mirror to freshen up. I just love makeup.

This week I am shifting gears from fall fashion to makeup tips and talking about a handful of my favorite makeup must-haves that I will never be caught in short supply of.

If you share my affinity for mattes, mascara and MAC, then listen up.

1. Urban Decay’s Naked Palette

This shimmery, matte and marvelous eyeshadow palette has it all. Urban Decay has come out with a few new editions of the Naked Palette since I bought mine, but any incarnation will do the job. The palette allows you to create a myriad of natural, smokey and fun looks for any time of day since it offers a little bit of everything. Usually when you shop for eyeshadow, you have to keep an eye out for colors that will complement your eye color, but this one covers them all. The price might knock you back as you clench your wallet in fear, but trust me, it will last you a lifetime.

2. Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Trooper

An eyeliner that stays true to its name. Whether you pop it on in the morning before your 8:00 a.m. class or you wear it for a long night out, this black, satin beauty will not budge until your head hits the pillow. Don't even bother looking for products that do the same thing. I've been there and done that. Nothing compares.

3. Maybelline Fit Me! Matte + Poreless Foundation

Finally, a drug store foundation that does the job. Spending money on foundation at a professional store just isn't worth it. I feel like the more expensive it is, the more it will make your face look like a piece of heavily iced cake. Invest in this money saver instead. You will look flawless.

4. Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita

I am convinced that this lipstick has the ability to detect your skin tone and change itself to complement you. Every time I see this color on somebody, it looks different but equally as amazing. A deep, rosey and matte shade of brown like this one works especially well in the fall when you pull out your cozy clothes.

5. Scotch Tape

Yes, you read that right. I use tape on my eyes. People can say what they want about it damaging your skin, but if used properly, I don't see the harm in it. If you want to achieve a clean line with no eyeshadow fallout and striking liner, use it.

As a warning, make sure that you put the piece of tape that you will place under your eye on your hand first to get rid of some of the adhesive. Now, when you take the tape off to reveal your sharp edges, you won't be ripping away at the sensitive skin around your eyes.

My makeup bag staples cover a little bit of everything from skin to eyes to lips. Pretty soon everybody will be asking you what you use. Have some fun creating your own looks, keep your stash stocked with these products, and don't forget the tape.
