Man found dead in Hocking River

A missing person was found dead in the Hocking River, according to a press release from Athens County Sheriff Rodney Smith.

Gregory W. Perry Jr.’s body was recovered by a member of the Athens County Dive Team.

On Wednesday, the Athens County Sheriff's Office received a report that Perry was a missing person. His girlfriend, Tiffany Bruce, reported Perry missing after she was unable to find him after swimming in the Hocking River off Hamley Run Rd.

Lt. Jason Kline responded to the area where the couple had been swimming, and Bruce told him Perry was swimming in the area before she left for a short time. When Bruce returned, she was unable to locate Perry.

A search of the area began, and dive team member Jon Tobin recovered the body, which will be sent for an autopsy. The incident remains under investigation.
