Good Morning,

Today is Ohio Heroin Epidemic Awareness Day, and various campus organizations are working to bring awareness to the issue.

Several events will take place at the Walter Hall Rotunda today and will feature information on heroin’s effect on Athens, personal stories from former addicts, and a vigil for those affected by the epidemic. Students are encouraged to wear purple to bring awareness to the cause. A full list of the day’s events can be found here.

Athens County has had problems with heroin in the recent past, and officials have been working to combat the issue.

In 2014, Athens County introduced the drug naloxone, also known as Narcan, to administer to individuals suffering from an overdose. Since the drug’s release, officials saw a large decrease in drug-related deaths.
