OU President Roderick McDavis is a semifinalist for the president position at a Florida university

Ohio University President Roderick McDavis is one of 10 semifinalist for the open president spot at Florida Gulf Coast University.

McDavis, along with the other semifinalists, will be on FGCU’s campus next week for interviews, according to a report from FGCU Presidential Search Advisory Committee.

The university’s presidential search committee selected the semifinalists Thursday from 103 candidates.

The semifinalists — five men and five women — include two university presidents, a chancellor, four provosts, a vice provost, a vice chancellor and a dean.

Located in Fort Myers, Florida, FGCU opened in 1997 and had 13,717 undergraduate students for the 2015-16 academic year, according to the university’s Office of Planning and Institutional Performance. FGCU President Wilson Bradshaw is stepping down June 30 after serving in his role since 2007.

After the committee finishes interviews Nov. 17 and 18, they will pick at least three finalists for the president’s job. From there, the finalists will be asked to participate in campus forums Dec. 7 and 8, according to The News-Press. On Dec. 9, the FGCU Board of Trustees will pick the president from the finalist list. The Florida Board of Governors will meet in late January and decide whether to confirm the board’s decision.

FGCU is using the search firm Witt/Kieffer to assist them with their presidential search, which is the same firm OU is using.

OU Spokesman Dan Pittman had no comment on McDavis being a semifinalist for the role of president at FGCU.

McDavis is the second alumnus and first African American to serve as OU president.

He announced in March that he would step down from his position as OU president when his contract expires June 30. He started his presidency in July 2004 and is earning $500,000 for the 2016-17 academic year.

McDavis previously served as a professor, dean and administrator at the University of Florida and Virginia Commonwealth University.
