Good Morning,

If the moon caught your eye last night, it was for good reason.

Observers of the night sky last night saw a supermoon — the moon at its biggest and brightest.

The phenomenon occurs when the moon is closest to earth. This year, it’ll be closer than it has been in 30 years, meaning it’ll shine up to 30 percent brighter than usual, according to NASA.

Don’t be glum if you didn’t catch it. You’ll have a chance to see it again tonight.

The supermoon comes just as Ohio University starts to build a new astronomy observatory at The Ridges. It should be open in 2017.
