MAC Football: Where MAC schools are bowling

With the end of conference championship week comes the announcement of where teams will end up for bowl season.

The Mid-American Conference will send six teams to bowls, including Ohio.

Western Michigan — Cotton Bowl

As the highest ranked Group of Five conference champion, Western Michigan was selected to play in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic where it will play Wisconsin.

This is the third game Western Michigan will play against a Big Ten team this season, specifically three teams from the West division.

The matchup is very interesting, as Bronco players such as Corey Davis — widely seen as one of the top NFL wide receiver prospects — will matchup against strong competition.

This game is not only big for Western Michigan, but for the conference as a whole. The payout could bring millions of dollars to the conference.

Miami — St. Petersburg Bowl

The first Football Bowl Subdivision team to start 0-6 and finish 6-6 will play Mississippi State (5-7) in the St. Petersburg Bowl.

The MAC team against a Southeastern Conference team seems like an interesting matchup, but Miami has momentum, so this could be closer than people think.

Bulldogs quarterback Nick Fitzgerald has been outstanding this season, especially in upsets over then No.4 Texas A&M and rival Ole Miss.

It will be interesting to see how Miami fares against the bigger, stronger defense that SEC teams are known for.

Toledo — Raycom Media Camellia Bowl

Toledo — the runner-up in the MAC West — will play Appalachian State in the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl. This is the second year in a row the Mountaineers will travel to Montgomery, Alabama for their bowl game.

This is the last game senior running back Kareem Hunt will have in the prolific Rockets offense before declaring for the NFL Draft.

Eastern Michigan — Bahamas Bowl

Eastern Michigan, in its first season of bowl eligibility since 1995, and its first bowl trip since 1987, will play in the Bahamas Bowl.

The trip to the Bahamas is certainly a reward for the Eagles’ unexpected success this season.

They will play Old Dominion.

Central Michigan — Miami Beach Bowl

Central Michigan will face Tulsa at Marlins Park in the Miami Beach Bowl.

A matchup of two Group of Five schools should bring a competitive game to the early slate of bowl games.
