Good Morning,

On Tuesday, President McDavis sent an email asking OU students and faculty to nominate individuals for honorary degrees from OU.

The awards are meant to recognize people who have “achieved distinction” in a variety of areas, especially “in service to Ohio University,” the email reads.

Last year, OU alumna and founder of Library of America Cheryl Hurley received one such degree. Nancy Cartwright, voice of Bart Simpson and former OU student, received an honorary degree in 2012.

Among acclaimed former students who haven’t received the honor is Ed O’Neill, who plays Jay (the grandpa) on Modern Family. O’Neill was nominated to speak at OU’s undergraduate commencement in 2016, but wasn’t selected.

You can read more about honorary degrees and how to nominate someone here.
