Pet Instagram Review: Kevin’s Birds, a 16-year-old with a whole lot of birds

Some say that owning a pet can give kids a sense of responsibility or purpose. If that’s true, then 16-year-old Kevin from Brisbane, Australia must be quite the responsible kid.

Kevin, who runs the account Kevin’s Birds (@kevinsbirds), with more than 90,000 followers, is a self-described “bird enthusiast, breeder, carer and tamer.” He runs his own business in which he sells and breeds birds, and will even bird-sit if requested. He documents this work on his Instagram page.

Quality of Pictures

The account features a mix of pictures of birds in his care, general bird memes and pictures of some of his birds wearing tiny hats. The pictures are pretty much all seem to be taken on a cell phone, which is OK because of the aforementioned hats. Kevin really appears to enjoy the presence of his birds, and it’s nice to see someone having such a good time doing what they love.

Some of the photos are selfies of Kevin with quite a few birds perched on his arm or body, which is an impressive feat. There are also videos of him petting the tiny little birds with his finger which is quite cute. Sometimes you’ll even be greeted with a video of a tiny baby bird hatching out of an egg, which is kind of gross but cute at the same time.

Rate of Posts

Kevin generally posts up to five posts per day, nearly every day. While some of these are reposts and some appear to be memes from a third party, it’s still impressive given that Kevin is still in high school and runs his own business.

Cuteness of Pet

As anyone who reads this blog knows, I have a soft spot for any animal wearing any kind of clothing. While Kevin doesn’t dress his birds up willy-nilly or an excessive amount, there are a few photos on the account of birds wearing tiny cowboy hats, Santa hats or beanies.

Aside from the clothing aspect, these birds have quite pretty coats — some with feathers of pastel blues, greens and purples. The birds don’t seem to do much besides hang out, which could be considered a good thing if you’re just looking for a pet to chill with. You’ll also get to see some proud mama birds posing with the eggs they hatched — another member of the “Kevin’s Birds” family.

Rating: 3/5

The account has a lot of reposts and doesn’t have the best photography or cameras involved, but it shines everywhere else. It’s great that Kevin has found a hobby and line of work that he can enjoy, while also helping his birds and the birds of others.
