Candidates for Graduate Student Senate 2017-18 announced

Ohio University Graduate Student Senate candidates for the 2017-18 academic year were announced Monday morning at the same time active campaigning began.

Two of the races are contested, but most candidates are running unopposed. Contested races include those running for senator positions for the College of Fine Arts and the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs.

Elected positions in GSS include the executive officers and senator positions and are voted on by the graduate student population. Other positions such as department representatives and commissioners will not be voted on by graduate students.

Each executive officer candidate is running unopposed. Maria Modayil, the Graduate College senator, is running to become GSS president.

Other executive candidates include Christopher Glick, department representative for political science, who is running for vice president for legislative affairs and Alec Koondel, College of Business senator, who is running for vice president for finance. Additionally, Becky Salami, director of public relations, is running for vice president for communications.

Elections will begin at 8 a.m. April 3 and end at 7 p.m. April 4. Each OU graduate student will receive an email with voting information before the elections end. The online ballot will be accessible to all graduate students. GSS elections will happen simultaneously with Student Senate elections
