Back to Bobcat Basics: Summer wardrobe and beauty essentials

As I say goodbye to my first year as a beauty and fashion columnist, I decided to leave you with my favorite kind of column to write and read; a list of my personal favorite beauty essentials for the summer.

I always liked getting other people’s opinions of their favorite products, styles and brands in magazines and online growing up, so I always liked writing about my opinion assuming someone may actually take it into account. So here’s to you my readers, one last list of my favorite summer essentials.

Bohemian headbands

I live in Charlotte, North Carolina, and summertime in the hot and humid weather is not ideal for any hairstyle. Why spend time styling it in the morning if you’re just going to look like you were electrocuted anyway? My favorite go-to is a simple messy bun paired with a thick bohemian-style headband that gives off the perfect summer vibe and carefree beach style.

Highlighter, shimmery eyeshadow and long lashes

Again, doing your makeup every day in the summer may seem like a useless task, especially if you are going to be melting outside anyway. The best option for those dog days of summer is a simple layer of SPF BB cream or foundation with a highlighter giving you that natural summer glow look. I also love to throw on a simple shimmery eyeshadow shade like Sin by Urban Decay along with long, thick lashes. This look is super easy to achieve and isn’t too over the top for everyday wear.

Unique shades

Every summer I seem to accumulate around 10 pairs of sunglasses because I am determined to find unique pairs. I love making a statement with sunglasses and trying different shades and shapes. Find a pair that suits your style and make them your own.

Kimonos

Judging from my love for bohemian-inspired headbands, one might guess that I love a relaxed, beachy look, and they would be correct. Give me a flowy cover-up over a simple t-shirt and I’m a happy camper.
