Uno, the family card game, has been played incorrectly by many people, as reported by Mental Floss. (provided via Wikimedia Commons)

Fun News Friday: You've probably been playing Uno wrong; get money to cuddle with cats

With all the talk of political investigations to the inevitable end of Game of Thrones, it’s easy to get caught up in the dread of the news. In the deep corners of the internet, however, there are fun stories being told. Fun News Friday will be a weekly blog to let you take a break and remind you all news is not bad news. Anything from this adorable gecko pal to the duck ramp that appeared outside the U.S. Capitol, I’ve got it covered when it comes to the happiest and most hilarious news of the week.

Here’s a look back at what was happening in the happy corners of the world this week.

1. The Australian prime minister said no to “Hey Ya!” becoming the country’s national anthem

Some Australian citizens wanted to “shake it like a polaroid picture” and make “Hey Ya!” by OutKast their country’s national anthem. Unfortunately, the prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, wasn’t up for that idea, Mental Floss reported.

The 2003 hit was rejected in an official letter from the prime minister himself, and he said the government has no plans to change the anthem. What a bummer.

2. Twins who turned 100 years old celebrated with a full-out photoshoot

After turning 100, Maria Pignaton Pontin and Paulina Pignaton Pandolfi wanted to celebrate in a magical way, BuzzFeed reported. When Camila Lima, a Brazilian photographer, heard about their recent birthday, she said she almost choked on her food because “they were so cute.”

"The shoot was super chill, they were excited and happy," Lima said.

If that doesn’t warm your heart, I really don’t know what will.

3. We’ve all been playing Uno wrong, and no one told us

I’ve had my fair share of fights start over the classic childhood game. However, I’ve apparently been playing Uno all wrong, and I’m willing to bet you have been, too.

According to the official game rules, “The first player to play all of the cards in their hand in each round scores points for the cards their opponents are left holding. The first player to score 500 points wins the game.”

I refuse to play this way, and I do not care if you want to challenge on me that.

4. Apparently you can get paid to cuddle with cats all day

Sign me up, please. Time reported that Just Cats Veterinary Clinic in Dublin, Ireland, is now hiring a “Cat Cuddler.” The salary would be between $22,000 and $28,000, depending on the applicant’s experience.

"Are you a crazy cat person and loves cats? Does cattitude come naturally to you?" Dublin's sole vet clinic for cats-only wrote in the job post. "If you answer yes to some or all of these questions, how about working with cats as a full time job at Just Cats Veterinary Clinic?"

Looks like I’m booking my flight to Ireland. Goodbye, journalism school! Hello, adorable kittens.

5. After making his own out of cardboard, this 6-year-old was surprised with his a real-life Nintendo Switch

Kazutoyo wanted a Nintendo Switch and asked his dad for one, but the family couldn’t afford it at the time, BuzzFeed reported. Kazutoyo improvised and made his very own video game console out of cardboard. He even asked for it for Christmas, and his grandmother bought him a case for the game system for the meantime.

Mohikan was so touched by his son’s patience (tbh, same), that he surprised Kazutoyo with the real thing while he was taking a bath. His reaction is the purest thing to ever exist.
