Though it was a slow week, a few musicians made some noise with new tracks this week while everyone waited around for Tyler, the Creator’s album drop on Friday.
Foster The People dropped “Sit Next to Me.” The beat makes the listener want to dance despite the sad meaning of the song, because self-deprecation is always fun. “I'm saying come over here sit next to me/We can see where things go naturally.” So clearly the singer just wants to get to know a woman, but alas, the song ends without really giving an end to the tale. I can only hope later in the album he escalates to pull the classic “yawn-stretch arm around you” move. I would listen to an entire album about contemplating whether or not to pull that move.
While we decide whether or not to sit next to Foster The People, Joey Bada$$’ “500 Benz” is one of my favorite releases of the summer. The simple beat and lyrics of driving around a city make this the quintessential song for being stuck in traffic while you contemplate whether or not you want to stop at a gas station to get a cheap cup of soda. Except, you might not be rolling around in a Benz like Joey is when you listen to this on your ride home.
Wrapping up this week’s best new music is Vance Joy. Yeah, evidently he can write more than just “Riptide” which is surprising to absolutely everyone. “Lay It On Me” is an easy listen that probably won’t stress you out. I can’t promise that, however.
Anyway, if I missed anything drop me a tweet @chuck_greenlee. My radar can only be so big, so help me out if you’d like.
