Good Morning,

According to NASA, a small asteroid will safely pass by Earth at approximately 26,000 miles today. The asteroid was discovered by a team in Hawaii back in 2012 and has not been spotted since. The passing of this will allow asteroid trackers around the world test their ability to operate as a coordinated International Asteroid Warning Network to communicate and coordinate their optical and radar observations for a real scenario.

"Asteroid trackers are using this flyby to test the worldwide asteroid detection and tracking network, assessing our capability to work together in response to finding a potential real asteroid-impact threat,” Michael Kelley, program scientist and NASA Planetary Defense Coordination Office, said.
