Police Blotter: People can’t find places to pee; man steals pizza delivery car

People had trouble finding bathrooms over the holiday season in Athens.

On Dec. 15 at about 1 a.m., Ohio University police observed a man walking on the sidewalk on South Congress Street.

After speaking to him, it was determined the man was intoxicated, smelled of alcohol, had difficulty standing or walking and had urinated in his pants.

He was taken into custody and issued a citation for underage consumption. He was also issued a minor misdemeanor for possession of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia, and he was transported to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail and released pending his sobriety.

On Dec. 21 at 1 a.m., an OUPD officer observed a woman urinating in the parking lot next to Attractions on Court Street.

According to the report, the officer smelled a strong odor of an intoxicating beverage coming from her person and breath. She also had difficulty standing and walking, slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.

Pizza problem

On Jan. 1, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint that a pizza delivery driver had his vehicle stolen while delivering a pizza at a residence in Trimble Township.

The delivery driver attempted to stop the thief when the suspect hit him with the car and knocked him on the roof of the car.

The man then drove about a mile with the delivery driver on the roof before stopping and fleeing the scene.

After investigating, deputies discovered the suspect was Cleo Conley, 54. Conley was arrested for felonious assault, grand theft auto of a motor vehicle and aggravated robbery, according to the report. He was taken to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail to await arraignment.

Possible pot

Deputies responded to a call from a landlord Dec. 23. He said he went to a residence he rents out and saw windows were open at the residence.

The residence had not be vandalized, but he observed a closet with grow lights and plants. When deputies arrived, there was a strong odor of marijuana. However, “the grow room closet” only contained vegetables and exotic tropical plants, according to the report.

Not so EZ to break in

The sheriff’s office responded to a call about someone attempting to break into the EZ Mart in Glouster on Dec. 31.

When deputies arrived, they found signs that someone had attempted to break the glass door but failed. The owner had video of the suspect attempting to break the door. The case is under investigation.

Joke’s on you

On Dec. 19, a man reported that a check was stolen from his mail in Millfield.

Before deputies arrived, the check had been located. A neighbor had picked it up for him as a reported “joke,” according to the report. No further action was needed.

Unwelcome guest

On Dec. 19, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to call to Bates Road of a suspicious person.

The caller said an intoxicated man knocked on his door and asked to come in. He said he told the man he could not come in, and the man left. Deputies patrolled the area but weren’t able to make contact with the man. No further action was needed.
