Graduate Student Senate: Body to discuss recognizing 'Graduate Professional Student Appreciation Week'

Ohio University Graduate Student Senate will discuss “Graduate Professional Student Appreciation Week” at its next meeting on Tuesday .

OU GSS President Maria Modayil said it is a National Association of Graduate-Professional Students initiative to recognize graduate and professional students. Modayil said the week could “provide a platform” to recognize those students.

To not interfere with International Student Week, which is the first week of April, GSS will vote to have the event the second week of that month. The resolution highlights events from various colleges and administrators at OU. Modayil said she will be contacting certain colleges to create a “theme” for each day that week.

“We would pass this resolution — GSS recognizes this week as the ‘Greek Week’ for graduate-professional students,” Modayil said.

Modayil said the week could recognize graduate students who won awards at the Student Research and Creative Activity Expo, which will occur the same week.

GSS will also discuss funding the Women in Grad School Conference on Feb. 10. That resolution would give about $700 to fund the event, which Modayil said GSS is “heavily involved” in through panels and help sessions.

The body will also vote on the questions that could appear on the application for the 2018-19 GSS election. If the resolution passes, the application would be due March 2.

Additionally, the body will hear a presentation from the student trustees at its Tuesday night meeting.
