Five movies to see in theaters this month

With spring break approaching and fest season upon us, heading to the movies is a perfect way to relax from all the hecticness of the semester. Here are five movies to see in March. 

A Wrinkle in Time

Based off of the novel written by Madeleine L'Engle in 1962, A Wrinkle in Time is sure to be a box office hit with a top of the line cast. The film stars Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine and many others. The movie is about a father (Chris Pine) who gets lost in a different dimension while doing science experiments. His daughter, Meg Murry (Storm Reid), and her friends travel to find her father and rescue him from the dark energy that has him held captive. The movie is coming to theaters March 9.



Gringo 

This film follows the journey of an average worker, Harold Soyinka (David Oyelowo), at a pharmaceutical company that has developed a “Weed Pill.” When his bosses, Elaine Markinson (Charlize Theron) and Richard Rusk (Joel Edgerton,) send Soynika to Mexico to deliver the pill to a manufacturer, he gets kidnapped. Little did he know, he was kidnapped by the cartel that was wronged by his bosses. In order to survive, Rusk hires a bodyguard of sorts to help Oyelowo’s character live. This comedy comes to theaters March 9.



Love, Simon 

Based on the book Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, this film follows Simon (Nick Robinson), a gay teen who hasn’t come out yet. The rom-com looks at Simon’s life and how he attempts to balance his friends and family while dealing with the struggle of deciding when to come out as gay. He also has an anonymous pen pal, Blue, who is also gay. The two confide in each other throughout the film. Simon also has to deal with a blackmailer who threatens to out him to his entire school. This film will hit theaters March 16.



Unsane 

This psychological thriller follows Sawyer Valentini (Claire Foy), a woman who appears to have been suffering after being stalked. When she moves to another city and changes everything about her life to escape her stalker, she still feels like she is seeing him everywhere she goes. When Sawyer goes to a group therapy session, she is admitted to a psychiatric hospital against her will. Viewers soon see her begin to unwind and go insane, believing she is seeing her stalker everywhere she turns. This thriller comes to theaters March 23. 



Ready Player One 

Based off of the novel, Reader Player One is a film set in a dystopian future in a world facing an energy crisis from the increase of global warming. Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) is a teen facing poverty that uses a virtual reality game called the OASIS as an escape. In the game, he is an “gunter” or an “egg hunter”. When the OASIS’ creator dies, a video is released that the creator left a hidden Easter egg somewhere in the OASIS. Whoever finds the egg will inherit a fortune. The film will come to theaters March 29.
