The newest Mid-American Conference member will have a new football coach next season.

The University of Massachusetts announced that head coach Kevin Morris had been fired after three seasons in charge of the Minutemen. His record at the school was 16-17. 

Athletics Director John McCutcheon said the team needed a "new direction in leadership," according to The Associated Press.

UMass will join the MAC as a football-only school as it moves to the Football Bowl Subvision in 2012. The Minutemen were 5-6 this season and lost thier last game 34-17 to James Madison.
