Jaaron Simmons averaged 12.5 assists during the week of Jan. 26, including a 17-assist performance in Ohio's 81-79 win against Toledo.

Ohio guard Jaaron Simmons was named Mid-American Conference East player of the week by YP.com, the league announced Monday. 

Simmons averaged 12.5 assists during the week of Jan. 26, including a 17-assist performance in Ohio's 81-79 win against Toledo. Simmon's 17 assists tied a program record held by D.J. Cooper and is the highest in the NCAA this season. 

The redshirt sophomore guard also averaged 10.5 points and five rebounds per game last week.  

Simmons and the Bobcats went 2-0 in MAC play last week, defeating Kent State at home before edging Toledo out on the road. On Tuesday, Ohio will play Akron.  

Through 20 games this season, Simmons is Ohio's second-leading scorer with 14 points per game and a league-high 156 assists. The second-highest in the MAC is Central Michigan's Rayshawn Simmons with 105. 

Simmons has had four double-doubles this season.
