The Ohio baseball team mirrored its effort against Xavier from two nights ago by defeating Wright State, 7-1, last night.
Backed by the solid pitching of Zeke Isaacs and Yale Silverman, Ohio held Wright State to only seven hits. But each time the Raiders put together a rally, it was quickly extinguished.
We played good defense; the outfield chased some balls down
coach Joe Carbone said. We did some hit-and-running and got some bunts down - a lot of the small stuff we haven't been doing well in the past.
Outfielder Phil Sabatini and infielder Brian Colopy did most of the damage for the Bobcats, combining for five hits and four RBIs. But it was catcher Ben Crabtree who administered the final blow, a bases-loaded single in the top of the ninth that sealed the victory.
Isaacs, who started the game, pitched two scoreless innings before Silverman came in to get the win, completing the final seven innings with five strikeouts and only two walks.
Wright State's only run came on a home run by catcher Bryan Vickers.
The Bobcats will resume conference play when they travel to Eastern Michigan this weekend. The three-game series begins on Friday at 7 p.m. in Ypsilanti, Mich., and will conclude on Sunday. 17
