Circle K organizes tsunami relief concert

Circle K, a Kiwanis service organization, will be hosting a tsunami benefit concert Saturday at O'Hooley's Pub and Brewery, 24 W. Union St. beginning at approximately 9:30 p.m.

David Shaw, a solo artist from Columbus, along with Athens bands Now Hiring Dancers and Flinch, will rock to keep the cash rolling in for Kiwanis organizations that are helping with tsunami relief efforts in the Southeast Asian area devastated by the natural disaster.

Circle K President Anne Valente said she is looking forward to donating the proceeds.

[Circle K has] had a couple benefit concerts in the past that were successful. Our goal is to raise $1

000. Hopefully we will hit it Valente said.

Emily Hill, Circle K's publicity chair, said the organization has done a lot of publicity work and she is expecting a large crowd.

Sam Lee, drummer for headlining band Flinch, said even though Athens is far removed from the events of the tsunami, it is still important to assist in any way possible.

It is important for everyone to help out. Hopefully we will have a good crowd we'll have fun and we'll raise money for a good cause

Lee said.

Raffle tickets will also be available for purchase, Valente said. Prizes have been donated from various Athens establishments such as Big Lots, Follets, Uptown Dog T-shirts, CiCi's Pizza and more.

Admission is $5. It is an all-age event.
