Alexander Local School Board of Education members met last night and inducted a new board member, watched a Baldrige classroom presentation and received certificates of recognition in honor of Ohio School Board Recognition Month.
Synthia Clary assumed the board position of Mabel Burton, who resigned in October 2004. Clary, a former substitute teacher in the Alexander district, will serve on the board for the remainder of Burton's term.
First-grade teacher Kim Harris and six of her students presented Baldrige strategies from the November training session.
The students recited the mission statement that guides learning in the classroom: We will get ready for second grade by learning
having fun by doing our best and following the rules.
A flow chart depicting the morning routine helps the students stay on track, Harris said.
It is the most important tool we use she said.
Harris's students collect data on tests, behavior and student preferences. They then create colorful graphs that go into individual student folders useful for assessment during conferences.
Superintendent Robert Bray gave certificates to the board members because January is Ohio School Board Recognition month.
