From Friday to Sunday morning, the Ohio State Highway Patrol of Athens and Hocking County reported 19 accidents in the area, a disproportionately high number, officials said.
It was the ice
said Sgt. Jeff Skinner of the Highway Patrol. That got us more than the snow.
Most of the accidents were minor. Only two injuries were reported. Both occurred on Friday.
Both injuries occured in accidents involving guardrails. The first crashed on state Route 664 in Hocking County. The second happened four hours later on state Route 278. Both drivers were male, and no alcohol was involved in either crash.
Skinner did not blame the county for any lack of preparation for this year's snowfall. They did everything they could he said. It flooded then it snowed. Not much more could be done with salting.
The Athens Police Department reported two car accidents in the city on Thursday, but none over the weekend. An official at the department said cars stalling out or getting stuck on the shoulder of Pomeroy Road were the largest traffic problems.
There was a lot of sliding off the road
no real damage
APD patrolman Gary Braglin said.
