Wrestler returns to win conference award

Three days after tying the Ohio record for career victories, Jake Percival, 157-pound wrestler, was named Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week. Coming off a rib injury, Percival won all three of his matches at the Buckeye Duals Saturday, including a victory against nationally-ranked Chris Horning from Clarion.

The three-time All-American upped his record to 12-1 on the season, good enough to be ranked No. 4 in the nation at his weight. The Elyria native has 122 career victories and can set the record this weekend at the 25th annual Virginia Duals in Hampton, Va.

Jump shooter moving up ranks

Ohio men's basketball forward Jeff Halbert is quickly ascending the university's all-time career 3-point leaders list. His run of 21 3s during the last eight games gives him a career total of 90 heading into Wednesday's game with Northern Illinois. The 90 career baskets put him at No. 11 on the list.

The White Bear Lake, Minn., native needs three more to eclipse Thomas Stephens for 10th. Halbert, who was named to the Florida International Holiday Classic all-tournament team this year, leads the Bobcats with 26 3s and is shooting 47.3 percent (26-of-55) from behind the arc.

2 Bobcats set season high in win

Ohio women's basketball players Quintana Ward and Andrea Johnson each set individual season highs for scoring when they tallied 16 points apiece during the Bobcats 80-69 victory against the winless Akron Zips Tuesday night.

Ward is currently third on the team in scoring with 8.6 points per game, while Johnson averages 6.3 points per game.

Goalie key to solid weekend

Ohio goaltender Ryan Baksh was instrumental in helping the Bobcats split their highly-anticipated series with the No. 2 Penn State Icers last weekend. Baksh, who hails from Kitchener, Ontario, stopped 27 of 28 shots in Friday's 3-1 win and 20-of-22 shots in Saturday's 2-1 loss.

The three Icers' goals were the fewest allowed by Ohio in a weekend series since the Bobcats gave up two in a weekend sweep of Lindenwood in mid-October.
