Gun rights advocate discusses racist laws

Gun Control is Racist -that was the title of Reginald Jones' presentation meant to raise awareness of gun control laws in the Ohio University black student population. Sponsored by the Young America's Foundation and the Ohio University Second Amendment Club, Jones said gun control laws were originally established to keep the black population unarmed.

Though Jones is black, he said because of his non-conventional views towards race, he many times found himself without the support of the black populace. Barred from speaking at Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y., Jones said he could not believe that he had received no support from the black students at the college.

OU Second Amendment Club president Jesse Roush was dissatisfied with the poor attendance of black students at the event.

It's very disappointing. This speaker was geared to the black population

and one (black) person showed up said Roush.

Besides the lack of black OU students at this function, there was a shortage of OU students in general.

It's pretty pitiful that [only] 30 people were here Roush said.

Aside from the poor turnout, Jones made points about the biases of gun control laws.

Whatever guns it was more likely for black people to afford

they (the government) banned them

Jones said.

He used past and present examples to explain how guns have saved lives and have exposed corruption in administration.

Jones said guns are not the only weapons people use to harm others.

You always hear about taking guns off the street

but you never hear about taking knives off the street

Jones said.

He said education about founding principles and rights is sorely lacking among young Americans.

What's there to prevent the government from walking into your home now and rifling through your stuff? The law? No one can be that na*ve

he said.

Jones said gun laws are not effective because criminals do not care what the law says.

We are leaving people in the inner cities prey to the criminals

he said.
