With an overall record of 8-10 and a Mid-American Conference record of 4-3, the Ohio women's basketball team has played nine games with less than an eight-point difference in the scores, win or lose.
Ohio won six of those nine games, three of them in conference, by less than six points. The close games also include a Bobcat win against Central Michigan that saw a game-winning shot after the team was behind the entire game. On the flip side, the Bobcats narrowed a 21-point deficit to four in the second half in their game against Buffalo, only to come up on the losing end.
In the three games Ohio lost by an eight-point margin, they gave up a lead with less than five minutes to go in the game. The Bobcats lost the lead with 3:53 left in their game against Sacramento State, thanks to a turnover by guard Simone Redd. Guard Quintana Ward also caused two leads to be lost with a turnover against Duquesne with 5:03 left and a foul against Miami with 2:22 left.
Coach Lynn Bria commented about the team's mistakes.
We're just not there yet
she said. When it comes down to the wire we just have some young people making some decisions that influence what we do the rest of the game.
Ohio gains one, loses one
As one Ohio player gradually returns to the game following an injury, another Ohio player is taking time off to nurse an injury of her own.
Guard Angel Hornsburger, who suffered an ACL tear during the summer, started Saturday against Buffalo for just the fourth time this season. Hornsburger, who led the team in steals last year, played 27 minutes, her most since her season debut Dec. 1.
Meanwhile, freshman forward Lauren Revesz did not dress Saturday due to a bad ankle sprain from the previous Saturday at Eastern Michigan. After Ohio's bye week, Revesz will practice Monday, Bria said.
