The Ohio University Student Senate discussed the nuisance party and noise ordinances and the dining hall survey, among other things, at its meeting last night.
Commissioner for City and County Affairs Brian Footer said he spoke with Athens City Councilman Dale Tampke, D-at-large, to discuss the city's comprehensive plan. Footer said they discussed redefining the nuisance party and noise ordinances and that Tampke said council is looking to do something different with the ordinances before this spring's Palmerfest.
Senate has created a petition to change the noise ordinance by requesting that a documented complaint must precede a police visit to an offending house. The petition also asks for a warning to be given before the house is cited. Senate will be having a signature drive March 4 at the dining halls, Off-Campus Life Commissioner Kristin Mazgaj said.
Senate President Kristen Jensen announced the dining hall commission will be traveling Friday to Ohio State University and March 4 to Miami University as part of its study on dining halls and meal plans.
We just want to see how we compare
she said.
The commission already has visited Bowling Green State University and Kent State University. It is looking at the meal-plan systems used by other universities in Ohio as part of an ongoing study.
Residence Life Commissioner Chris Frederick said Bowling Green's system is similar to OU's buffet-style dining, but Kent State's pay-as-you-go system seems more economic.
Some students we talked to wanted to just get a bowl of cereal and pay for just that bowl of cereal he said.
Frederick also reported his commission has finished compiling the results of its dining hall survey, which was conducted between Jan. 31 and Feb. 4. The survey's results were surprisingly positive, he said, with few of the 300 replies falling in either the excellent or poor categories.
There were a lot of good comments he said. Most replies were either 'good' or 'satisfactory.'
