Graduate student senator steps down, is replaced in Arts and Sciences position

Matthew Martin recently stepped down as Senator for the College of Arts and Sciences after the Graduate Student Senate asked for his resignation.

Martin resigned because he did not fulfill any of the duties pursuant to Article II

Section D Part 1 of the Bylaws of the Graduate Student Senate according to a press release.

This bylaw lists various tasks each senator is responsible for, including ensuring communication with the other members of the senate, attending all general meetings and attending all committee and commission meetings that they were assigned.

Martin, a member of senate since the beginning of Fall Quarter, had a class conflict during the time that senate had its meetings and was unable to attend, he said.

Martin will not return next quarter because he has another class conflict during the senate meetings, he said.

Talece Hunter officially replaced Martin during the Feb. 21 meeting, during which members voted her in.

As senator, Hunter is expected to recruit graduate students to work with senate as either senators or department representatives, she said.

Hunter said working for senate will help her get experience for a future position in the government, which is one of her aspirations.
