I have been reading, with some amusement, the firestorm of outrage over the new homepage on the Ohio University Web site. While it does not appeal directly to me (class of 1973, officially a geezer), it is not supposed to. The new site is edgy and unique among its peers and hopefully appealing to this over-stimulated generation. I like the SMS, the Post-It note, the hand-written quick links, etc. For us oldsters
the alumni site is blissfully boring.
A recent letter to The Post said that a Web site will not fix the enrollment problem. Not by itself, no, but the site is an important part of the marketing mix. Ohio is at least trying something different and for that I applaud the effort. Settle down, folks. If it doesn't work you'll have the pleasure of being right. If it does work, you can grind your teeth to dust in frustration and find something else to complain about. At a major university, there will always be something else.
