Ross's family, friends join to educate, remember

Friends and family members of Terris Ross will gather today at the graffiti wall for a candlelight vigil to commemorate the two-year anniversary of Ross's death.

Ross -a 23-year-old OU senior when he died -was shot and killed March 9, 2003, while sitting in the driver's seat of a Cadillac Sedan Deville parked in a University Commons lot.

Two years have passed since the shooting, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case, though the Athens Police Department still has strong suspects and actively is investigating leads, said Lt. John Withers, the investigator in the case.

In addition to conducting the vigil, Ross's friends and family members will be passing out informational flyers about the shooting at College Gate.

Shawna Darrington, an OU junior and a friend of Ross, organized the event to raise awareness about the case.

It's a personal thing

Darrington said. T-Ross was a friend of mine although I did not know him for a long time he did have an impact on my life. Angel Ross, Ross's fiancée and the mother of his child, will be in Athens for the event.

The vigil will begin at 5:29 p.m., and the flyers will be passed out from noon to 5 p.m.
