Softball drops 7 of 12 games during break

While many Ohio University students were basking in the rays of a warm vacation spot, the Ohio women's softball team had no time to relax. The team had its toughest stretch of games, playing 12 times in 10 days.

Ohio started the break poorly by dropping its first two contests in the Wolfpack Challenge held in Raleigh, N.C.

Despite a complete game from pitcher Zoe Heim in the series opener, the Bobcats were only able to muster one run against North Carolina State in the 3-1 loss. The 'Cats then dropped their next game, against Marist, 2-1.

On day two of the tournament, the Bobcats came back with a vengeance. In game one, the Bobcats scored at least one run in every inning to defeat St. John's 9-5. The Cats' put together another strong performance in game two by defeating Fairfield 8-4. Ohio finished the tournament with a 3-0 quarterfinal loss to Western Kentucky.

Showing no signs of fatigue, Ohio put together its best win of the season by routing Central Connecticut State 12-0. Second baseman Jenny Tisevich belted a three-run home run and right fielder Debbie Szalejko added three RBI's.

The Bobcats continued their strong play at the Lancer Invitational in Farmville, Va., by shutting out the University of Maryland Eastern Shore 9-0. In game two, Ohio was shut out 2-0 by UNC Greensboro and ended the tournament 2-1 overall with a 3-1 victory against Longwood.

The Bobcats began their Mid-American Conference schedule against Western Michigan last weekend. In the three-game series the Bobcats managed to only score three runs, dropping each game to start out 0-3 in the MAC.

After being swept by Western Michigan, the Bobcats finished the break 5-7, with a season record of 11-18 thus far. After 29 games, the Bobcats play their first home game of the season at 1 p.m. Wednesday against Central Michigan.
