Better things for better living through plastic

Ohio University tuition: $8,235 per year. A standard double dorm room: $3,855 per year. A meal plan offering 20 meals weekly: $3,831 per year. Cost to get into an Ohio baseball game: free.

Free? How can something free be priceless?

During my time here at Ohio, I often have wondered -especially when I see a poorly attended 'Cats' football game or empty seats in The Convo during basketball season -where the heck are the...well, students?

Be they football games, field hockey contests or lacrosse matches, I have always gone out of my way to make as many athletic events as possible. So, the question stands -where are the students, the fans, the people who have green and white flowing through their veins?

This is a great time to be a Bobcat supporter. Frank Solich is bringing new life to a football team already on the rebound. The volleyball and mens' basketball teams are both Mid-American Conference champs. There are guys on our wrestling team who are unbelievable athletes. Next year looks to be a breakout season for field hockey thanks to new coach Neil Macmillan. And let's not forget the excitement our baseball, softball, soccer, track and field, swimming and diving and golf teams can generate.

Do we supporters of the mighty Bobcats not realize that we already hold the most important piece of plastic we will ever keep in wallets or purses during our collegiate career?

And no, I'm not talking about daddy's Visa.

The piece of plastic, also known as your ID, that you swipe for every meal, every library book and, yes, every football game, is invaluable-even if you have hat hair in your picture.

It may be cracking -mine sure is -and you may think it's just a piece of identification, but that little card gets you free time on an outdoor tennis court or a workout inside of Ping. And it serves as a free pass to all Ohio athletic events.

You have free access to some of the most exciting sports action you will possibly see in your life, so where is everyone?

Sure, you may not be able to swipe your ID for a case of Natural Light, but spend the money on some green and white paraphernalia and get out to the games!

Pssst, it's free...
