Heim pitches 5th complete game in loss

Despite yet another strong performance out of pitcher Zoe Heim, the Ohio softball team dropped its eighth straight yesterday with a 4-2 loss at Miami.

Heim went the distance for her fifth complete game of the year. She allowed eight hits and four runs in her seven innings of work. Because of four Bobcat errors, only one of the runs she allowed was earned.

I thought Zoe pitched an outstanding game today

Coach Roanna Brazier said. The defense just made too many mistakes and it cost us the game.

The Bobcats came out strong in the first inning when Robin Miller drove in Marian Davis with an RBI single to right to go up 1-0. The RedHawks struck right back in the bottom of the first with an unearned run to knot up the score.

Three more Bobcat errors would result in three more RedHawk runs to make the score 4-1 after four innings. Ohio made the score 4-2 in the fifth when Courtney Waters led off the inning with a triple and then scored on a Miami error.

Ohio is now 6-12 in games that are decided by two runs or less. Brazier feels that the team's intensity level matches all other opponents but is lacking the ability to win these close games.

Our intensity has picked up a notch but we're just not putting away these close games Brazier said.

Ohio will look to snap their eight-game losing streak today when they face Youngstown State in a non-conference matchup. Like the Bobcats, Youngstown State is struggling to put wins together of late. They have lost six out of their last seven games.

The Penguins are led by infielder Tiffany Patteson. She ranks third in the Horizon League with a .404 batting average. She is also the team leader in batting average, runs, doubles, and triples.

Even though Ohio has been struggling lately, Youngstown State coach Christy Cameron has warned her team not to take any opponent lightly.

We don't overlook any of our opponents Cameron said. We've talked to our players about this and we respect all of our opponents. Anybody

at this level

can beat anybody at any time.

First pitch of the doubleheader between Ohio and Youngstown State is slated for 2 p.m. at the Ohio Softball Field.
