Just like the postgame music by Tom Petty encouraged, the Ohio women's lacrosse team wouldn't back down this weekend.
After letting a close 9-6 game slip away to Vanderbilt Friday, Ohio bounced back and came out energized Sunday, pummeling Howard relentlessly for 60 minutes resulting in a final score of 20-2.
Coach Kate Brew said her team definitely earned the victory (the final game of the three-game homestand) and it will help the team improve the rest of the season.
It's definitely a confidence booster to win in this fashion after two close
heartbreaking losses Brew said, It was great we were able to work through and execute the things we've been working on in this (Howard) game.
The Bobcats (4-9 overall, 1-4 American Lacrosse League) had 11 different players tally goals against the Bison. The leading scorers were: Caitlin Link with four goals and one assist, Kari Fasick with three goals, Dana Dobbie with two goals and one assist, Kristen Gombeski with two goals and Kelley Windle with two goals and one assist.
Midfielder Link said the win showed the team could still win and has many players that can contribute.
I think this win did wonders for our team Link said. It really brought our confidence back up and it helped the team come together and prove to ourselves that we can win and do the things we need to do. It was wonderful to see everyone come off the bench and have players score that normally don't.
However, the story was much different Friday as the Bobcats only had three players score against ALC foe Vanderbilt.
Leading the way with four goals and two assists was midfielder Dobbie, but the Bobcats only connected on two of its 10 shots in the second half after being tied with the Commodores at intermission 4-4.
We took enough shots
but on the opportunities when we had shots we were unfortunate because they just weren't bouncing our way
Dobbie said. It was kind of unlucky how some of our shots went
if had we connected on some more we could have stayed in the game.
The Bobcats will hit the road next Friday for their contest at 4 p.m. against Maryland-Baltimore County.
