Lacrosse suffers tough loss on New York road trip

The Ohio lacrosse team took a hit yesterday when it suffered an 8-5 loss to Albany in non-conference action at Rensselaer's Harkness Field in Troy, New York.

The Bobcats (3-6 overall, 1-3 American Lacrosse Conference) were not able to get into an offensive rhythm in the second half after midfielder Dana Dobbie -Ohio's leading scorer -was ejected from the game in the first half for receiving two yellow cards.

Ohio had trouble controlling the ball throughout the game, committing 25 turnovers and tallying no assists in the contest.

Coach Kate Brew said not having Dobbie in the game did hinder the team's offense, but the problem was ball handling and lack of offensive execution.

We had entirely too many turnovers; we weren't handling or taking care of the ball the way we should have

and we were forcing too many shots Brew said. Not having Dana in the game played no impact on us not being able to handle the ball. Yeah she is always a good player to have in

but we should be strong enough as a unit to be able to get the job done without her in the game.

Dobbie did score one goal in the first half and midfielder Caitlin Link contributed both of her goals in the first half as well. Midfielder Julie Roguski scored her third goal of the season and the 'Cats headed into the locker room at halftime tied with the Great Danes 4-4.

Brew knew her team's ball movement and offensive fluidity would have to improve in the second half for a chance to win.

We knew they were playing a high-pressure defense

so in order to score more goals we would have to move the ball better on attack and find the open girl

she said. We needed to clean up our ball movement and run some of our plays

but unfortunately we weren't able to do that.

The Bobcats' only second half goal came from freshman attacker Kelley Windle after the Great Danes (2-10) scored three straight goals. The victory snapped Albany's nine-game losing streak and prevented Ohio from starting a winning streak of their own.

The Bobcats will be back in action at 4 p.m. Friday at Peggy Pruitt Field when they play host to California.
