An Ohio University senior, who police say held his roommate hostage and brought two loaded guns into Alden library, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity yesterday to two counts of carrying a concealed weapon and one count of abduction.
Police arrested OU senior Ryan Salim, 25, at 9 p.m. on April 5 in Alden Library after Salim brought two loaded weapons into the building. The arrest came after Salim held his roommate at gunpoint for most of the day, forcing him to drive to various locations in Ohio, according to police.
After his arrest, Salim was placed in the Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare Center, a local psychiatric hospital.
Athens County Prosecutor C. David Warren said that while a trial date has been set for Salim, it is likely to be continued pending Salim's psychiatric evaluation by the Shawnee Forensic Center.
