Students can enjoy a night of free art, music and refreshments as the University Program Council presents its first student art exhibit at 7 tonight in The Front Room at Baker University Center.
The exhibit, coordinated by Nicole Baum, will feature 24 pieces of art by 10 undergraduate and graduate students, including two international students. The event has no theme because we don't want to exclude anyone from this show
Baum said. Public relations coordinator Chelsea Hamilton said UPC wants to give Ohio University students a chance to hang up artwork for others to see.
Pieces on display will include prints, paintings and photography. Baum wanted to get as many genres of art involved in the event as possible.
Tristan Kinsley, an Athens native who attends OU, will perform music at the event. This guitar-playing singer and songwriter will mostly perform original pieces. Baum said Kinsley has mad music skills. Baker Catering will provide light refreshments for tonight's opening.
Art faculty members Jim Fike and Karla Hackenmiller will judge the artwork. At the end of the night, the winner of the event will receive tickets to see The Full Monty UPC bucks (money to use toward UPC-sponsored events), two Moms' Walk bracelets and gift certificates to the College Bookstore and Donkey Coffee and Espresso. Baum said the winner will take home about $50 in goodies.
Baum said UPC is hoping to make this an annual event. She has been planning the event since the beginning of Winter Quarter and hopes that the exhibit will be a great success.
After tonight's event, the artwork will be on display until April 21.
