The Ohio men's golf team has not played in a competitive event since March 24, in which it narrowly lost a match against High Point University.
They will tee it up with something at stake for the first time in over two weeks today in the Marshall Invitational played at Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, W. Va.
The Bobcats are looking forward to the challenge of a tournament, especially because the team has not played in one since the first weekend in March.
It's always nice to test your game and get back into the saddle
junior Jon Johasky said.
Johasky led the Bobcats over spring break, earning Mid-American Conference player of the week for his stellar play in North Carolina.
The team will be sending juniors Johasky and Brian Elsea, along with sophomores Mark Cimarolli, Blake Russell and Ryan Siekmann out on the course to represent Ohio. All five have played Guyan Golf and Country Club at least once, and the team thinks this factor will help its chances.
All the guys have played there so we know the course pretty well coach Bob Cooley said. We normally play pretty good there.
There will be 15 teams competing in the Marshall Invitational this weekend, which begins this morning and concludes Saturday.
Women headed to Virginia The women's golf team, coming off a fourth place finish at the Indiana Invitational last weekend, will be traveling to Harrisonburg, Va., this weekend to participate in the James Madison University Bonnie Hoover Invitational.
Ohio, led by senior captain Sara Ann Palmer (79.13 average) and junior Julie Tomlinson (78.13 average), finished in a tie for fifth at this event last season, and expects to have the same results this year.
I expect to be probably top five
if not better. It just depends on the conditions and how well we play. We should definitely be up there
assistant coach Jeff Hetler said. Obviously we go out and try to win every tournament
that's our goal
but if we're in the top five we can live with that.
While the Bobcats are expecting a finish in the top five, they understand that there are some other excellent squads in the 15-team field.
James Madison is usually really strong. They're at their home course and they're a solid team
Hetler said. Princeton will also be there and they're a solid team.
Play at the Par-72 Lakeview Golf Course begins with a shotgun start tomorrow at 8 a.m. and ends Sunday.
