Ohio hoping for win

The Ohio baseball team will continue its home stand tonight as they face Otterbein in the first of two non-conference contests this week.

Coming into the game, Ohio (11-13 overall, 4-3 Mid-American Conference) has won eight of its last nine contests improving to second place in the MAC East.

After mistakes by the Bobcats in the final inning of Sunday's game, coach Joe Carbone said the team has to concentrate on each play to avoid those same mistakes and come out with a win.

It's all mental

he said. In baseball you gotta physically be able to react and perform.

However, Ohio's offense has contributed to the team's winning ways and looks to do the same in upcoming games.

Shortstop Bryant Witt, who is in the midst of a 12-game hitting streak, said he wants to continue his part in helping the team win games.

I am just trying to hit the ball trying to lead the team the best I can

he said. I hit in the bottom of the order

so I just try to get on base just so the guys in the top of the order can hit me in.

Ohio catcher Ben Crabtree, whose bat has come alive in recent games, said it has felt good to start hitting well and hopes his efforts help the Bobcats.

I've just got to get good pitches and hit them and that's what I did this weekend

Crabtree said. I've just got to continue that

being patient and getting the pitches I need to hit and hope to help the team win a few games.

Crabtree is hitting .293, with 29 hits, including five homeruns and 19 runs batted in on the season.

Making his second start of the year, John Angelicchi (1-0) will get the nod for the Bobcats as they take on the Cardinals.

The right-hander has made three appearances this season, allowing seven hits and striking out three batters with a 2.57 earned run average. Last Wednesday, he pitched two scoreless innings in Ohio's 21-5 victory against Ohio Wesleyan.

He has been throwing strikes lately

Carbone said. We want to see him throw better than he did the last time out.

The first pitch is set for 6 p.m. tonight at Bob Wren Stadium.
