Players must give 110 percent to earn and keep position

With a new offensive system and a coach of their own, the Ohio quarterbacks are spending the spring practice season learning in an environment of friendly competition.

Austen Everson, Mark Petruziello and Jerrod Sparling emphasized the supportive atmosphere that practice has right now, with all three working through the same transition to coach Frank Solich's offense.

It's a lot of new stuff

a lot of new terminology a lot of new formations Sparling said. It's definitely a learning process. There's definitely a lot of stuff there to get confused on

and without the other two guys

I don't know where I'd be.

We can always ask each other questions

Petruziello said. There's three of us here just in case we get lost somewhere

which happens at times

but I think it's great that we're all together here

and we're all learning the same thing; we're on the same page.

In addition to working on their own position, the quarterbacks are looking forward to seeing improvement in the offensive line after spending much of the 2004 season scrambling to avoid opposing defensive linemen.

They've been trying to put on weight

Everson said. They can't get much uglier

so they might as well put on as much as they can. I room with (right guard) Matt Miller
