I read the letter from marine Marc Fencil (Soldiers face real 'die-in' daily in Iraq, April 8). And I want to say how proud I am of this brave young man, and how grateful I am for his services to this nation.
I grew up in England and lived in six other countries before I settled here 24 years ago. I can say from my experiences and comparing the people of the nations I have lived in that the American people have the strongest sense of morals and duty, are the most compassionate and are the friendliest. This is the greatest country on earth, and I'm grateful to be living here.
It sickens me to see these liberals damning their own country at every possible occasion. Do they not realize that upwards of 50 million people have been liberated in Afghanistan and Iraq. Three million girls are back in school in Afghanistan. The general public no longer fears murder, torture or rape from their governments, and for the first time in the history of these countries they voted in democratic elections. These are huge achievements and the world needs to acknowledge what the U.S. forces and their allies have accomplished.
So I say to the protesters of the die-in
put down the lattes, turn off the Hollywood news and listen to what this young soldier has to say. Wars have been fought for your freedoms that you are now exercising. Stop being ashamed or embarrassed of your country because some Hollywood actor tells you that you should be. I have heard soldiers say on the radio that the Iraqi people repeatedly come up to them and say thank you for being here and saving us and please don't go yet because we don't want to return to the former style of government. It's a pity that the die -in crowd doesn't feel the same gratitude!
Thank You, Marc.
