Volleyball hosts spring tourney

The Ohio women's volleyball team is looking to find out which of its players will fill holes left by role-players like setter and Mid-American Conference Player of the Year Briana Adamovsky.

We lose players

gain players and roles change head coach Geoff Carlston said. We have to build our foundation for the upcoming season.

The best way for the 2005 volleyball team to get prepared for this fall's season -spring tournaments. The Bobcats are competing in three straight spring tournaments, their second of which is in The Convo this Saturday.

Last weekend Ohio competed in the Chicago Spring Challenge placing fifth of 18 teams.

A couple matches we played pretty steady volleyball and outplayed our opponents Carlston said. After last weekend I saw several things the team needs to work on

mostly being aggressive on defense.

The Bobcats were victorious over teams such as Michigan State and Marquette and defeated by Wisconsin and Notre Dame.

Ohio brings their game home this weekend, where they have one of the longest home winning streaks in the nation, to host a round robin tournament Saturday in The Convo with five other teams.

The teams, Cincinnati, Dayton, Marshall, Miami and Northern Kentucky, will play five games each in the one-day tournament with the first game beginning at 10 a.m. and the final game at 6 p.m. Two games will be played side-by-side on the court to accommodate all six teams.

Ohio is slated to play Northern Kentucky at 10 a.m., Dayton at noon and Cincinnati at 2 p.m. The Bobcats will finish up the tournament with Marshall at 4 p.m. and will compete in the final match of the day against Miami at 6 p.m.

Carlston is looking for his players to do well, with intense defense through out, but more than that he wants Savanah Parra, the setter taking over Adamovsky's spot, to run the show.

Savanah has really been doing a nice job and has been stepping into that leadership role

Carlston said. We just want to get her more comfortable with running the show.

The team will end their spring tournament play at the Purdue Tournament April 16th.

Admission to the tournament is free and Ohio will kick off the day with a match against Northern Kentucky at 10 a.m. in The Convo.
