The Ohio baseball team was washed out once again last night and will travel to face West Virginia 7 p.m. tonight.
Last night's non-conference game was slated for 6 p.m. at Bob Wren Stadium. The game was called early in the day because of forecasted heavy rains.
The cancellation was Ohio's ninth of the season and the third in a row.
Ohio (17-14-1 overall, 6-4-1 Mid-American Conference) will not make up last night's game; however, the team plays at Youngstown State 6 p.m. next Wednesday.
The Bobcats had been red hot until its recent string of rain cancellations and will look to continue its great play at West Virginia (19-22 overall, 5-8 Big East Conference).
Winning 14 of its last 16 games, Ohio faces a tough obstacle in West Virginia who has won three straight and seven of its last ten games.
We're clicking and playing well
Ohio coach Joe Carbone said. We're doing things well and when we get in a rhythm we would like to keep playing.
Leading Ohio's recent success has been catcher Ben Crabtree and pitcher Derek Witt.
Crabtree won the MAC Player of the Week Award two weeks in a row becoming the first player to accomplish that feat this year. Crabtree leads the team in batting average, .348; hits, 46; and home runs, 8.
On the defensive end, Witt has been setting benchmarks for the pitching corps to follow. Witt leads the team in wins with four, innings pitched, 60; and strikeouts, 45.
The Bobcats are coming off a weekend in Buffalo where the team had three scheduled games and finished with a (0-1-0) record.
Sunday's game was first moved to Sunday for a doubleheader in anticipation of inclement weather.
Friday's game went 13 innings before officials postponed the game until Saturday. The weather did not improve and the game was eventually called an 8-8 tie.
Everybody else is in the same boat so all the other teams are battling the same problems Carbone said. It's who does more and stays sharp while they're not playing.
John Angelicchi (3-0) takes the mound 7 p.m. tonight when Ohio plays at West Virginia.
