At-large City Council seats to be contested

Candidates for Athens City Council offices will not appear on the primary election ballot tomorrow because no two candidates from any party are pursuing the same seat, according to the Athens County Board of Elections.

The only contested seats for the November elections, as it currently stands, are for the three at-large positions.

The following individuals will appear on the November ballot in seeking their respective offices: -Democratic Council President Bill Bias issued his interest in re-election.

-Incumbents Jim Sands, D-at-large, and Carol Patterson, D-2nd Ward, are campaigning for at-large seats available. Democrat Amy Flowers and Republican Matt Bernosky are also contenders for the three at-large seats.

-Democratic incumbent Paul Wiehl will seek re-election for his 1st Ward seat.

-Democrat Bojinka Bishop will campaign for the 2nd Ward seat.

-Nancy Bain, incumbent 3rd Ward Democrat, will run for re-election.

-Incumbent Deborah Phillips, a Democrat, is the 4th Ward candidate.

-Democrat Mary Ann McClure is seeking re-election to her treasurer position.

Two at-large council members, Democrats Dale Tampke and Sarah Sexton, will not seek re-election.

Jeff Yount, whose petition as a Republican was rejected in February, said in March that he planned to campaign as an independent. Petitions for those running independent will be accepted until 4 p.m. today.
