Senior day for the Ohio women's lacrosse team did not turn out the way the Bobcats wanted it to.
After enduring a rain drenched senior day presentation, the Bobcats (5-10) took to the soaked field and saw little action for the first fifteen minutes.
The Oregon Ducks (5-10) snapped the stalemate by scoring three goals in the next five minutes. Ohio went into halftime trailing 4-2.
The Bobcats only connected on two of their first 14 shots -a statistic that coach Kate Brew said she knew would cost the team victory.
After a 9-7 loss, Brew said she was disappointed in her team shooting 22 percent for the game.
Shooting seven out of 31 isn't going to get it done
she said. That right there is why we lost.
Despite the team's poor shooting, Brew praised the senior defense's showing during the game.
Our seniors played phenomenally and they all played great defense Brew said. We just had too many midfield turnovers and trouble handling the ball through out the game.
Defender Molly Wurdack said the Bobcats were not able to win because of a problem they have dealt with all season.
We again had too many fundamental mistakes Wurdack said. The little errors -although someone might say it's just one dropped ball or one turnover -every time those things happen they turn into a 200-yard sprint or a goal for the other team.
Midfielder Caitlin Link said she is already looking forward to the team's last game of the season.
Now we just want to put this game behind us
Link said. The team and especially the seniors want to start focusing on the next game and getting that W.
Although the team did not produce a win for the home crowd, Link said she was glad about how many spectators did show up.
It was great to see how much of all of our families showed up
Link said. After the game
even though it didn't turn out how we wanted it to
having all the parents come up to us and talk to us and support us was great. They just love seeing us play and we love them
we're all like a big family.
The 'Cats will play their last game of the season next Saturday in Providence, R.I., against Brown.
