Scott Mayle was the highlight of the weekend for Ohio track and field as he qualified for two NCAA regional events at the Campbell/Wright Open in Akron.
The Campbell/Wright, an unscored meet, was the last tune-up for the Bobcats before the Mid-American Conference Championship meet next weekend in Athens.
This was just the first meet of the year for Mayle, who had been out with an injury for both the indoor season and until this point in the outdoor season.
Mayle is now the second member of the team to have regional qualifying times. Jericka Duncan made the requirement earlier in the season in her two events, 100-and 400-meter hurdles.
Mayle's first qualification came with the 100-meter dash where he took first place with a time of 10:50. Chip Cox, Dan Bailey and Dustin Holm followed Mayle in the event taking third, fourth and sixth, respectively.
The next qualification came in the long jump where Mayle finished second with a jump of 24-09.75.
Other notable performances for the men came from Brian King, who finished first in the 1500-meter run. Dustin Holm landed a second place finish in the 200-meter dash and John Willis took second in the 400-meter dash.
Sprinter Dan Bailey said he thinks the meet was a good one to send the team into the MAC meet.
This weekend was a good tune-up
Bailey said. Some people had sort of an off day because we did different events than we normally do. But it was a good meet and we are looking forward to having a really good meet next weekend.
On the women's side, it was Duncan who highlighted the weekend. She landed a first place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, the only first place finish for the women. Duncan also took fifth in 400-meter hurdles.
The Bobcats will be back in action next weekend at the MAC Championships in Athens. The three-day event will be held at Goldsberry Track and will begin Thursday and continue through Saturday.
