Softball players reveal talents despite unsuccessful season

Kerri Harley made good use of her final appearance on the mound for Ohio Sunday in the Bobcats' regular-season finale against Buffalo.

Unfortunately, it was not enough for a win.

Despite pitching six innings, striking out five batters, and giving up no earned runs, three Ohio errors -which led to Buffalo's two unearned runs -and a lack of run support doomed Harley in her final start, a 2-1 loss.

The ace in 2004 finished the season with 38 strikeouts, which was third-best on the team behind Zoe Heim and Michelle Sauter.

Several players making dents in record books Even though the Ohio softball team finished in last place in the Mid-American Conference with an 18-38 record (4-18 MAC), several players were able to provide flashes of brilliance throughout the course of the season.

Jenny Tisevich had a career year in her final season as a Bobcat, collecting 53 hits, 16 doubles, and two triples. Her six home runs placed her in third place all-time on the single-season home run leader list. Her 33 runs batted in tied her with Peggy Davis in 1981 for sixth place all-time.

While Tisevich made her final marks on the Ohio record books, two freshmen broke into the books for the first, but not last, time.

Heim was the Bobcats' strikeout artist this season, whiffing 105 batters, good enough for a seventh-place tie with Val Wood in 2002 on the single-season strikeout leader list. She also threw eight complete games on the year.

Courtney Waters became a terror on the base paths, swiping 14 bases in her first season in Athens, placing her in ninth place amongst the single-season stolen base leaders.

Her team-leading stolen base total was boosted by a three-stolen-base performance in the first game of a doubleheader against Ball State on April 27.

Coach Roanna Brazier also reached a milestone this season, winning her 200th game as Bobcats coach on April 9, when Ohio beat Kent State 2-1.
