Female Athlete of the Year

As an athlete, volleyball setter Briana Adamovsky was a natural star, helping her team to numerous accomplishments and gaining recognition along the way, but it was her leadership and determination on and off the court that made her memorable to all those who saw her play.

Briana took everything she knew and took it to another level of play

coach Geoff Carlston said. She grew as a leader and a teammate.

Although the senior had a more than satisfactory ending to her Ohio career this season, adding another Mid-American Conference championship, it was her hard work and dedication to the game that allowed her to grow and flourish as the go-to player on the team.

It was a lot of hard work and time but it definitely paid off Adamovsky said. I am so fortunate to have had the coaches I had and the teammates I played with.

Though the first three seasons of her collegiate career were compiled of several accomplishments, it was her final season in a Bobcats' uniform that helped her earn The Post's Female Athlete of the Year award for her 2005 season.

The 5-foot-6-inch Solon native earned awards followed by more awards throughout the season including her most recent, the Ohio University's Female Athlete of the Year. In the MAC, Adamovsky was named MAC East Division Player of the Week three times, MAC Player of the Year and First Team All-MAC along with MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week and MVP of the MAC Post-Season Tournament. Nationally, she was awarded Collegiate Volleyball Update National Player of the Week, AVCA Mideast All-Region Team honors and was named National Setter of the Year by the Collegiate Volleyball Update.

Maybe most importantly to her, was her Most Outstanding Player award, which was given to her by her Bobcat teammates.

Bri brought a lot of intensity and leadership to the team this past season

outside hitter Stephanie Blackburn said. She is very passionate about the game.

Adamovksy will also leave her name in print as she set school records for assists, in a season with 1,421, and in a career as part of the Ohio squad.

Briana brought a lot to the team and being the setter she had to have a complete knowledge of the game and then know how to apply that to our hitters

outside hitter Katie Smith said.

The setter's hard work through the last four years paid off in her final collegiate year of volleyball. She finished 11 matches with more than 50 assists in each and recorded a season-high 58 assists in the Bobcats' victory against Cincinnati. Each year had its own memories

Adamovsky said. It's great to say that my senior year was definitely the best.

Adamovsky's volleyball journey will not end here. The Bobcat will follow in former teammate Laura Hageman's footsteps, and try her hand in professional volleyball overseas in Europe. Though, her exact destination or team is not yet certain, her desire is to continue playing a game she loves.
