In a few days, most of the student body will leave Athens for exotic locales. Some of us will head to internships, some back home to work. Not me. I'll be here. In Athens. All summer.
But it won't be all bad. You see, I'm the editor of The Summer Post, the vacation version of The Post you know and love. Well, at least that you know. So now I'm taking applicants for any writers, editors, Web technicians and photographers who will also be staying in Athens this summer. You don't have to major in journalism, have written in publications before or even have any real training in journalism.
What you do have to have is a desire to know what's happening in Athens and at the university. You have to love to tell stories. You have to want to report what OU officials are doing with your money. In short, you have to want to speak truth to power.
Because this summer will be big, especially for the university. President McDavis, finishing up his first year at the helm of the school, will be hiring new administrators. When most students get back, the university will have a new director of athletics, a full-time lobbyist, new deans and maybe more new faces.
So, if you like holding feet to the fire, let me know. If you can't stay in Athens over the summer, but still want to keep current about what's happening here, check out the paper's Web site -www.thepost.ohiou.edu. We'll be updating it as news breaks to keep you informed.
-Chuck Bowen, a junior journalism major, will be editor of The Summer Post. Send him an e-mail at cb102102@ohiou.edu.
