At a press conference yesterday in Copeland Hall, Ohio University President Roderick McDavis announced the completion of a first draft of the school's strategic plan.
The plan -which he said would be presented to the university's board of trustees at their meeting Friday -outlines OU's goals during the next 10 years and specific steps on how to reach them.
A strategic plan is critical for any organization to move forward
McDavis said of the 119-page document. It's a blueprint of where you want to go.
McDavis said the centerpiece of the plan was to strengthen undergraduate education and to find niches for graduate research with the ultimate goal being an increase in the rankings for OU in U.S. News and World Report.
OU currently is ranked as the 46th public university in the magazine's top 100. The Princeton Review ranks the university as the fifth-best party school nationwide in its The Best 357 Colleges.
(The plan) sets in place how we intend to gain national prominence he said, adding that discussion needs to take place and that the plan might need to be touched up a little bit after public forums this summer and in the fall. He said a final draft of the plan should be ready by October.
McDavis also said that enrollment figures still point to an increase of more than 350 students from last fall's freshman class.
We believe this deep into June
we're in pretty good shape
he said. We don't want to spend the money yet
but we be that there will be an increase in dollars. We will help ourselves by increasing enrollment for the next academic year.
